With the entire world in the middle of a global pandemic, it has become difficult to find ways to help the vulnerable without endangering each other due to the order of social distancing in the country.

How may we have a positive impact of helping others while still practicing social distancing and isolation?
Research
Due to the short timeline of 24 hours and being completely remote, we searched local organizations in Toronto and what their protocol is in regards to providing resources and accepting donations. Some organizations clearly stated they would not be accepting donations while others demonstrated what they are offering and how they are handling the crisis.

Currently, many people resort to online platforms to support those in needs (i.e. GoFundMe pages, Facebook Donation pages). We considered this method for the basis of our product and wanted to create a platform that curates charities and organizations in need of resources and/or assistance.
REFLECTION
This hackathon was unique compared to my other experiences as this was completely remote and occurred in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. There were a lot of unknowns at the time and personally a lot of stress was happening; I just graduated from my program and felt discouraged with job hunting. I took this opportunity to not only reflect upon our objective of helping the vulnerable during a scary time, but to also see how one can collaborate remotely and efficiently given the extremely tight deadline. While we did not get to explore all aspects of our app, we were able to flush out the concept clearly and provide a working prototype and high fidelity mock up of the main features. As of summer 2020, my team has decided to make Onus a side project to further enhance its capability and see how it can be integrated into the real world.
